The Future is on the (K) Line!: LA Metro Board of Directors, 2025

Single Delegate Crisis Committee

Committee Summary

Set on the cusp of realizing their ambitions for Metro’s Vision 2028 Plan, the Board of Directors must contend with internal conflict, rapid expansion, and most importantly: putting the county of Los Angeles on the right track. While debating current issues of connecting LA County, expanding access to public transit, and the rampant NIMBY-ism that has delayed much public transit progress, the Board of Directors must also look to the future: the 2028 Olympics. Advertised as a monument to the LA transit system, the 2028 Olympics has promoted itself as “car-free,” depending only upon public transit to move a sea of tourists, athletes, and the public. In the race to overcome rivalries, make their mark on the LA cityscape, and address the seemingly eternal rush hour, will the committee be able to make the final push towards the largest test of LA’s newly developing transit system—or will the Olympics prove too large a hurdle to overcome?

Meet The Staff

Emiliano Jasis

Chair

Welcome to LAMUN XX! My name is Emiliano Jasis (she/they) and I am honored to be your chair for The Future is on the (K) LINE!: LA Metro Board of Directors!

A little about me: I am a third-year Psychobiology major here at UCLA, hoping to minor in Anthropology. I’m involved in research and multiple clubs on campus (too many, probably). When I’m not cramming my studies or in a club meeting, I enjoy watching anime, trying new foods, and, most of all, exploring new areas! I am originally from East LA, so I grew up exploring much of Southern California. It is in part because of this experience, that I first became involved in Model UN. Engulfed in the rich diversity of Los Angeles, I’ve had the privilege of experiencing a multitude of cultures while learning to be critical of socioeconomic disparities (I can also confirm that public transportation here is… something). Over time, I developed a passion for social awareness and, ultimately, geopolitics. Model UN allows me to move forward with that passion—while also making friends from all over the world when traveling! Having chaired committees throughout high school and collegiate circuits, and gaining Best Delegate Outstanding recognition for chairing LAMUN XIX JCC, I’m thrilled to help make your time at LAMUN unforgettable. I hope that you will not only enjoy the dynamics of this committee, but also make new friends, work towards achieving your personal MUN goals, and gain a taste of the complex, invigorating LA environment!

In this committee, you will be in a unique position of discussing the issue of public transportation in Los Angeles while being nestled right at the heart of it all. While in downtown, you will navigate complex dynamics between public and private infrastructure, weigh the interests of diverse-minded community members, and aim to bring mobility and accessibility throughout LA County–all while bearing in mind the needs of the most vulnerable populations. This committee will bring about innovative points of debate that affect the world around you in real time, making for an exciting and intense experience. Good luck and it’s time to get this show on the road!

Best Regards,

Emiliano Jasis

Isabella Torriani

Crisis Director

Dear Delegates,

Welcome to LAMUN XX– My name is Isabella Torriani (she/her) and I’m very excited to be your Crisis Director for The Future is on the (K) LINE!: LA Metro Board of Directors.

To introduce myself, I’m a third-year Neuroscience and Political Science double major from San Diego, California. From having approximately 300 tabs open to prepare for my biochemistry final to conducting constitutional research on the Philippines, my time here at UCLA has been an incredibly rewarding experience. Outside of academics, I collect copies of Dorian Gray, enjoy Parts Unknown reruns, and am a massive fan of all things David Bowie. I have always loved crisis, having CDed at both our high school and collegiate conferences and received recognition from Best Delegate for Outstanding CD at LAMUN XIX’s JCC– and I am so excited to see what this committee has in store for us.

The Future is on the (K) LINE!: LA Metro Board of Directors features the backdrop of bustling Los Angeles, with several aspects of committee (quite literally) taking place within only a few blocks of the historic Biltmore Hotel. On the cusp of several massive developments, both transit and public housing oriented, the LA Metro BoD must contend with internal conflict (drama..), rapid expansion, and most importantly: putting the county of Los Angeles on the right track. In committee, the LA Metro BoD will overcome rivalries (or more likely, start them) in a chance to make their impact on the LA cityscape. I want to encourage each and every one of you to bring your passion, creativity, and wit to this committee. Embrace the allocations you'll be representing, challenge the status quo, and let your diplomatic brilliance shine. If you ever have questions, need guidance, or simply want to share your favorite Bowie song, don't hesitate to reach out.

I look forward to seeing how you work together to reconcile inter-board rivalry, solve traffic issues once and for all, and of course, how you immerse yourselves in the richly diverse landscape of LA. Remember, when in doubt: we just need one more lane.

Best of luck,

Isabella Torriani
