Press Corps: O Delegate, My Delegate!: The Revival of the Dead Poets Society

Single Delegate Specialized Committee

press@uclamun.org

Committee Summary

The Dead Poets Society has been revived once again! A group of young, aspiring poets and artists have recently discovered that their teacher used to be a part of a secret society called the “Dead Poets Society” and are now dedicated to creating their own to document the factual and emotional roller coaster that is LAMUN. Delegates will be tasked to write poems, short stories or songs throughout the entire weekend tracking the ups and downs and highs and lows of Model United Nations while also creating a special yearbook to commemorate another glorious year at Welton and LAMUN. The committee’s allocations include the descendants of famous poets from the past; the delegates are asked to honor them through their best prose-writing capabilities throughout the entire weekend, bringing art and culture to the ears of their fellow delegate and breathing more of it into the hotel as a whole. This committee is perfect for the sensitive soul who loves to frequent coffee shops, wear sweaters over their crisp button-ups, watch Gilmore Girls in the fall, but also enjoys a chaotic and fun twist to their ROP and want to seize the day during their journey at LAMUN XX.

Meet The Staff

Paige Kim

Chair

To my Dearest Dead Poets,

Hello! I am Paige Kim and I am the chair for this year’s Press Corps, however you may also refer to me as your Captain for this wonderfully artistic rendition of Press Corps. I am currently a Second Year double-majoring in English and Political Science at UCLA. I am originally from Orange County, California and am a fifth generation Californian. Southern Californian blood runs deep in my veins and I cannot picture my life without the beach within thirty minutes of me. I am also a third generation Bruin, but I do not count it as my dad only went to graduate school at UCLA and my grandfather got in when they were genuinely letting anybody in. My passions include writing, reading, nuance and being pretentious. My interests include cutting my own hair, wearing too much blush, blasting music way too loud, making instagram create mode stories and drinking as much coffee as possible.

I am currently in my sixth year of MUN; I started as a freshman in high school and have never known a life without it since. In high school I specialized in running my high school team’s meme account and swearing that I would quit the next year (this has not happened and I doubt it ever will). I entered MUN with the goal of learning more about global issues and politics, but found that I stayed because of the community that thrives and flourishes with it. Some of my closest friends come not only from my high school’s team, but the people I met in the club at UCLA. I staffed both our high school and collegiate conference last year as well as chaired our high school conference this year and am more than excited to come back to LAMUN this year with my own committee. I am most known for my unique ROP and creative spin on MUN, pushing the boundaries of debate and different ways that people can experience a Model United Nations conference.

As somebody who enjoys writing in their free time and hopes to go into it professionally, I am elated to bring to all of you this year’s unique rendition of Press Corps. Delegates will be tasked with bearing their hearts and souls through poetry, prose, short stories and songs modelled after famous poets of the past while getting cozy with other delegates and creating permanent bonds like those seen in the original Dead Poets Society. My hope for this committee is not only to see art being created, but friendships as well. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race and the human race is filled with passion. I look forward to the passion you all bring to this committee and to your art.

Good luck,

Paige Kim
