Milei and Madness: The Argentinian Elite, 2023
Single Delegate Crisis Committee

Committee Summary
On November 19th, 2023, Javier Milei won the runoff election in Argentina to become the country's next president. After the president-elect vowed to dismantle Peronism and privatize many of the national industries deeply entrenched within the political landscape, those who have the most to fear from these democratic but radical changes have convened in the rumored secret estate of Perón — hidden in the Andes Mountains of the Santa Cruz Province (and near El Chaltén) — and owned and operated by the Kirchner Family Dynasty.
Upon entering the mansion, powerful figures from all over Argentina are stripped of communication to the outside world and escorted into the conference room to discuss: planning a coup, or any other way to return to power in the country and prevent Milei from taking office on December 10th and destroying the political system that has (corruptly) given those in the room power and money for so long. Using all of the influence, skills, and abilities that they have, participants will work with the Kirchners in planning to oust Milei, prepare for the aftermath of the coup, grapple with potentially reforming Argentina's democracy so that control can always be theirs, and refining Peronist policy and unity moving forward in order to consolidate support.
However, while all of this is taking place, each participant is hiding SECRETS that, if found out, would lead to their removal from the group or even execution by the Kirchners' security — some for liability reasons, others for malicious ones. Thus, while the participants openly collaborate in the conference hall, their assistants are busy scouring the house for each others' blackmail, traversing the hidden rooms and secrets within the manor along the way, and even, potentially, attempting to defy security in order to contact the outside world.
Chair Letter
Dear delegates,
My name is Elizabeth Carrasco (she/her) and I’m so excited to be your chair for Milei Madness: Argentinian Election, 2023 at LAMUN XIX.
I’m a native Southern Californian and love everything related to the water: swimming, surfing, paddle boarding, etc. Though I love a good night out, I really enjoy playing guitar and doing trivia with my friends. On the academic side, I’m a fourth year political science major with a concentration in international politics and minor in Chicano Studies. I plan to attend law school next year to study international and/or business law.
I’m active within the collegiate circuit and have loved making connections around the country and around the world. I’ve been on UCLA’s travel team for three years and serve as the club’s Director of Internal Relations (social chair). I started doing Model UN when I was 11 years old and will be saying my final goodbye through this conference. Though it breaks my heart, it makes me even more excited to hear the various perspectives and solutions each delegate brings to the table.
I am a second generation Mexican-American with family from Michoacán and have loved learning about my culture in the diverse city of Los Angeles and through Latino-focused political science classes at UCLA. I’ve explored topics ranging from the Chilean Constitutional Convention to human rights violations in El Salvador and am looking forward to discussing the political and socioeconomic implications of Milei’s victory in the Argentine presidential election.
See you April 11!
Elizabeth Carrasco

Crisis Director Letter
Dear Delegates,
Welcome! I’m Max Schaked (he/him), and I am super excited to be your Crisis Director for Milei Madness: Argentinian Election, 2023!
I am a third-year Political Science and Economics double major coming in all the way from Orlando, Florida. Yes, I do wrestle with alligators in my free time. Yes, I always win. Additionally, I enjoy rock climbing, crossword puzzling, screenplay writing, playing spikeball, and playing/producing music.
I’ve had an incredible time so far during my time at UCLA — writing for The Burkle Center for International Relations, and working for the Los Angeles World Affairs Council. Of course, I’m in love with Model UN, having founded my high school team and now competing on the UCLA team in national crisis committees.
As a second-generation Argentinian-American, I have followed the politics emanating from Buenos Aires since I first learned how to read the news. Nothing has fascinated me quite as much as the recent election results, and the man who took the prize: Javier Milei. After much brainstorming, I have come up with a unique simulation that, although does not directly include Milei, is abundant in the fallout of his win. Centering on the vulnerable Argentine establishment, I believe the committee will stretch everyone’s imagination and their tenacity in the face of chaos. And there will absolutely be chaos.
Can’t wait to meet you all,
Max Schaked
